Grandmaster Kang Ik Pil, Ph.D.
Biography
Grand Master Kang Ik Pil is one of Korea's most respected Taekwondo masters and educators, holding the prestigious 9th Dan from Kukkiwon. With a lifelong dedication to the art and philosophy of Taekwondo, Dr. Kang has made outstanding contributions as an international referee, national coach, researcher, and educator. His work bridges the traditional and scientific aspects of Taekwondo, guiding its evolution as both a martial art and an educational discipline.
Dr. Kang has served in numerous leadership and educational roles, including Deputy Chair of the Kukkiwon Technical and Planning Committees, Chairman of the Referee Education Committee (ETU), and Head Coach of the Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships (2024).
Dr. Kang played a leading role in the development and revision of Poomsae competition rules (WT & KTA), the creation of new Poomsae for major events such as the Asian Games, and the design of educational materials for global Taekwondo instructors. His lifelong mission is to promote Taekwondo as both a martial discipline and a cultural heritage of Korea.
